Lesson 1:
Introduction to Information and Communication Technologies

Through this introduction, I was able to meet the objectives my teacher imposed to us.

I was able to improve my knowledge on how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) affects our everyday lives and the state of our nation. Since ICT deals with the utilization of different communication technologies which are very common nowadays, especially in the current generation. To have modern devices such as mobile phones, telephones, and Internet connection, were considered as necessity. I gained knowledge about the similarities and differences between online platforms, sites, and content.

I learned that there are different types of Web such as the following:
                1. Web 1.0- also known as the Static Web or flat page. This web is manipulated only by the creator, and not by the users. The information shown through it is the same for all users.

                2. Web 2.0- this is the upgraded version of Web 1.0, by adding dynamic web pages. Unlike the first, this type allow user to see or access differently than others.

Webs 2.0 also have six features namely as:

1.       Folksonomy- it allows users to categorize and classify/arrange information using freely chosen keywords (e.g., tagging).

2.       Rich User Experience- content is dynamic and is responsive to user’s input.

3.       Long Tail- this is synonymous to subscribing to a data plan that charges you for the amount of time you spent in the Internet, or a data plan that charges you for the amount of bandwidth you used.

4.       User Participation- the owner of the website is not the only one who is able to put content.

5.       Software as a Service- users will subscribe to a software only when needed rather than purchasing them.

6.       Mass Participation- It is diverse information sharing through universal web access.

This lesson serves as a vital tool for understanding the future of the World Wide Web through Web 3.0. It aims to have machines (or servers) understands the user’s preferences to be able to deliver web content specifically targeting the user. Even though this seems to be much cooler with the first two webs, Web 3.0 faced several problems in terms of compatibility, security, vastness, vagueness, and logic.

Moreover, I were able to have a grasp regarding the four trends in ICT which are convergence, social media, mobile technologies, and assistive media. Through these trends, it becomes a benefit for me as a consumer of digital products, in which these trends help me to point which device is best to buy.
