Lesson 10:
ICT as Platform for Change

In this lesson, I have understood about the topic "ICT As A Platform For Social Change". I  comprehend the events that ICT helped realized, and use prior ICT knowledge in planning a campaign using online resources.

The teacher discussed about the Roles of ICT in Recent History. Thanks to ICT, a history was made through in Philippines.

EDSA (People Power Revolution) was been successful through a radio station named Radio Veritas, in which 2 Million Filipinos from different sectors unite to strike against the then former President Marcos. This took place along EDSA from February 22-25. 1986.

Another milestone, was that EDSA Dos took place. On Jan 17-21, 2001, former President Estrada was dethroned because of 11 prosecutors that walked out during his trial. The people grew big through text brigades.

Also, during the devastation of Typhoon Yolanda, an application was developed and powered by Google called Yolanda People Finder. This a tool for people across the globe to track the situations of their relatives.

Lastly, the teacher introduced to us a website named Change.orgdubbed as "world's platform for change". Anyone from the online community can create a petition and ask others to sign in. She even taught us how sign an online petition.

In answering the question “What are the implications of media and information to an individual?”

Media is a vital tool for society as a portal or window to access information whether to know what is a fact or a false statement regarding a certain topic. Thus, media can be a bridge in connecting people and unite them via their own agenda. Helping them to targeting and achieve their goals.
